My August ‘20 in Review

Published on in ✍️ Posts

And August is over too. This month went by pretty fast due to my summer vacation and I didn’t blog much because of that, but here is my short monthly review…

Subscription fatigue

Rahul writes about the “app subscription fatigue”. I don’t currently subscribe to apps through the Play Store, but I do pay monthly or yearly for some digital services. Therefore I decided to make an overview of all my subscriptions to get an overview of my monthly costs for subscriptions.

On using Linux…

Next to my Microsoft Surface Go with Windows on it, I often take my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1 with me, when I visit my family over the weekend. The ThinkPad let’s me do some development things on a Linux machine (with Ubuntu 20.04) during the long train trips (6 hours each direction). So I always try to get everything up-to-date before. If anyone is wondering, why there’s no new content on this blog: I’m on vacation in northern Germany at the Baltic Sea!

I’m fine and am (mostly) enjoying the time with no internet. There’s no WiFi here and also my mobile network’s coverage isn’t optimal (o2 sucks outside of big cities). So I’m more or less forced to do a digital detox. I read books and spend time with my girlfriend instead. 😌

I also chose the right time for my vacation, now that it’s so hot and dry in most parts of Germany. Doing work during this heat wouldn’t be so comfortable. I really hope temperatures are back to normal when I’m back home.

“Why I started microblogging”

Bryan Sebesta shares his reasons for microblogging: I often run across things that I’d like to share but don’t deserve their own post. Outside of Twitter, how do I share it? A microblog creates a space for that.. It becomes […] “a way for me to put everything I do online that is visually small — anything small enough not to require scrolling: quotes, links, images, audio files — in one place, and a place on my own site.”

It was probably a good decision to cancel my OnePlus Nord pre-order. Next to the display issues there are delivery delays and now there’s another problem too.
