⚠️ This entry is already over one year old. It may no longer be up to date. Opinions may have changed.

Unexpectedly, I found a seemingly not so new app (it was first released in 2022) that I wish I had known about earlier. Google’s app Reading mode.

Some sites, like my blog or the German newspaper Spiegel, offer an audio version of the text, but many do not. On other sites, the text is easy to read, but on many sites it is not (ads, small font size, challenging font, bad contrasts).

Google’s app tries to solve this problem. The app is pretty simple, but offers some very useful features, especially for better accessibility.

Just go to a website or app with a few paragraphs of text, open the accessibility link (at least on my Samsung Galaxy A54, I can configure it to open with a button or some key combinations), and it will try to recognize the article or text. You can then customize the font, font size, colors, and even have the app read the text aloud (at your preferred speed).

You can download the app for free on Google Play.
