There are times when you want to look at something on GitHub on the go. The previous mobile web experience was terrible, but with the latest redesign, the new mobile web experience is finally usable. 🎉 By usable I mean usable, but not necessarily good. I think GitHub still has some room for improvement.
Like of: 20th Anniversary
Congratulations! It is exciting to see that some people run websites that are (almost) as old as I am. In 2000 I was just one year old. What will the Internet look like in another 20 years?
Stay hydrated!
I bought myself a cheap glass jug to always have enough water in reach. Stay hydrated! 🚰

It’s a user agent with JavaScript enabled, because that’s what sends the page view to my statistics tool. And it’s just my homepage (jlelse.dev) and not the home page from my blog. I won’t rate limit though, my site is cached using BunnyCDN and as long as it doesn’t cause gigabytes of traffic, I’ll just let things as they are.
I don’t know what’s the reason for that, but for the last few days someone with Windows 8.1 and what seems like the latest version of Chrome (at least that’s what the User-Agent string is telling) is messing up my homepage stats with hundreds of visits per day. Maybe it’s because jlelse.eu redirects there, which has a quite high Alexa rank and someone is scraping the site every few minutes? 🤔
Nextcloud Notes
Nextcloud Notes is my favorite note-taking app that allows me to sync notes across devices using my Nextcloud instance. I don’t like to limit my notes to just one computer, I need to be able to access them from anywhere, whether that’s my desktop computer, my laptop or my phone. And I choose a self-hosted Nextcloud, because then I can also choose any other file editor to edit the notes.
Making RSS more visible again with a /feeds page
Marcus Herrmann suggests using a /feeds page on your blog to list all the available (RSS) feeds to follow you.
Apple sucks 🙅♂️
I’m currently looking for a possible replacement to my Xiaomi Mi A1 (it’s showing signs of aging and has an annoying GPS bug). I’m evaluating previous-generation refurbished phones as well. While iPhones look great on the surface and aren’t really more expensive than premium phones from Samsung etc., I won’t buy an iPhone though. First, iOS is locked down so much, the only smartwatch you can use without problems is the Apple Watch and I won’t buy one to replace my Galaxy Watch. You also can’t install any apps Apple hasn’t approved. Second, the whole drama about in-app-purchases and Apple’s uncompetitive behavior is annoying as well. I won’t take an iPhone unless someone gives me one for free. Apple sucks! 🙅♂️
Blogging is easy
If I had to make a list of my 5 favorite blogs, Weekly Musings by Scott Nesbitt would be included. Issue 72 is about blogging:
A successful day
Today (or already yesterday at the time of publication of this article) was a quite successful day. 💪
