My blog has the function to open a random article (just go to jlelse.blog/random). But I also like to use it myself and it always amazes me what I find there. For example, what I thought and wrote four or five years ago. That was a time of many changes in my life, which probably shaped me a lot. I was searching a bit for meaning in life and my role in the world. Some things I see differently today, but some things I still see that way.
One of the tech news sites I read has switched from Disqus to native WordPress comments. Where uBlock Origin used to block more than 15 items (unfortunately I don’t remember the exact number), now only 2 items are blocked. 👍 (also for not switching to “Comment on Twitter” instead)

When I watch YouTube videos on my Android phone, I almost always use the NewPipe app. It offers a privacy-friendly experience, protects me from ads, and offers a few more options that you would only get with YouTube Premium (downloading video or audio, for example).
Unpopular opinion: SQL is awesome and I really like writing performant SELECT statements.
Reading something like this makes me really sad: The Amazon now emits more CO2 than it absorbs – due to deforestation.
Now that I have the option to publish posts without them showing up in the feed for everyone, I can finally use my blog to comment on other IndieWeb sites and send webmentions without annoying my followers. Now my blog is really a complete Twitter replacement for me.
One post I commented on, for instance, is Barry Frost’s article about his new IndieWeb CMS. A different approach than mine.
I don’t know much about the technical background, but it’s kind of cool to see that a website can be hosted on a calculator (archive link).
Today I learned that it is possible to use a caching proxy for the Docker Daemon.
When it comes to updates, I’ve always thought that it would be handy to be able to update all the software installed on the computer at once with a single command, so that I’m always up to date. But doing updates manually only once in a while for the programs I use also has something decelerating about it. 🤔 Am I getting old?
