At work we are still using Java 8 for a project, but an upgrade will be needed in the future. To see what has changed, there is a list created by Dávid Csákvári that lists all the new features of the language and JVM that happened between Java 8 and Java 16. And that are indeed quite a lot.

It seems that Deutsche Bahn has finally improved their on-board WiFi. 👍 It’s actually usable, even for programming over SSH with Visual Studio Code. Sometimes the connection is a bit slow, but we are also going through tunnels.

Two years jlelse.blog

Two years ago today, I registered jlelse.blog and merged my different blogs into one. Since then, I definitely blog more and now use the blog instead of posting on siloed platforms as well. It has definitely paid off. And the domain is already renewed for another two years.

Today I went for a ride on my non-electric city bike. It’s fun to be pushed by an electric motor, but riding with your own power isn’t so bad either and it makes me feel good to push harder on the pedals sometimes. I’m also thinking about buying a road bike as a “reward” after my bachelor’s degree to do a bit more sport again, but one that you can ride on more than just the road. 🚴‍♂️🤔

I am a fan of SQLite. SQLite is brilliant, offers a lot of features, but is often underestimated. Also my blog uses SQLite, as well as my URL shortener.

This happened to me several times today. I listen to music on my smartphone while sitting at the PC. I want to skip a track. But what do I do? I press the “Next” key on my PC keyboard instead of taking my phone and pressing “Next” there. 🤦‍♂️
