My April ‘20 in Review

Tech, life and everything else
April was somehow anything but exciting. Thanks to a contact ban it was now the first full month in home office.
As I write these lines, I listen to music on Spotify. To a playlist named “Lowkey Tech” with “chill techno and chill house” music. Recently I have been enjoying this music a lot. Electronic music, but relaxed and mostly without vocals.
Yesterday, I asked the Hacker News community why they don’t have blogs, even though they have the necessary technical skills.
I admit it, I am a big fan of pre-packaged software. Software that I simply set up by typing a single command or just adding a few lines to my existing configuration. I like simplicity and this kind of software makes things a lot easier and lets one focus on getting work done.
Yesterday I wrote my third monthly review and since I think it has become a habit by now, I will summarize here how and why I am doing this:
March 2020 was the strangest month I have experienced in my almost 21 years. While in February I only noticed Corona slightly, today Corona determines the everyday life of most people worldwide. Corona is suddenly there as a danger that one could not even have dreamed of. Suddenly public life is completely at a standstill, only shops for essential goods are open, millions of people do home office and it is (in Germany) forbidden to meet more than one person in public.
When was the last time you watched a 90 minute movie without drifting off with the thoughts, pulling out the smartphone or doing something else in between than watching the movie? I often cannot even manage to watch a 30 minute video without being distracted.
February was rather quiet in contrast to January. I had the practical phase and was working in the office accordingly. The main task was to find a possible topic for the bachelor thesis. I also found something, but now I have to look for a professor to supervise the topic and hear what he thinks of the idea.
In the 2019 year review, I have already announced that in the future I want to do a monthly review. I want to reflect on what I have experienced and learned in the past month, what has occupied me and also what I am going to do for the next month. Of course I will not be able to write everything on a public blog, but I will try to be as open as possible. This should also help a little bit as a reminder. So I can look back later on what I did every month.
During the last weeks I saw a few reviews (like this one) about long time experience with the Surface Go. I have mine for a couple of months now and finally finished the first semester where it accompanied me for a couple of different tasks.
