My July ‘25 in Review
Time flies, and July is now over too, so it’s time to take a quick look back.
At the beginning of the month, I had actually planned to go on a bike ride from Goslar in the Harz Mountains, along the Oker River, all the way home. Well, eventually, I only rode a few kilometers before I fell and had to go to the emergency room in the evening to have my hand, which was quite swollen, X-rayed. It was my first time in the hospital for my own treatment. Fortunately, nothing was broken, and I didn’t need any further treatment. Just a few days of keeping my hand still, cooling it a lot, and waiting. The bike is currently still in the repair shop, but only the brake was damaged.
The following week also saw another first: we were audience members at a TV show. In Hamburg, we were guests at the satire show extra 3. It was a Christmas present from my fiancé for 2023 and an excellent idea. It was really exciting to take a look behind the scenes of our favorite satire show! Since we were already in the north, we took the opportunity to visit my grandmother as well.
Later in the month, we had a few appointments to view potential wedding venues and finally found a beautiful and not too expensive location that suits us for next year. Now we can continue with the rest of the planning…
Professionally, my commitment and my personal and professional development have finally been officially recognized, and I am now officially no longer a junior. Titles are just smoke and mirrors; ultimately, it’s mainly about money, but the promotion was long overdue in my opinion. Especially since I always stand in for the lead developer when he is absent and am also a central point of contact in other matters.
I continued to optimize the Wi-Fi in my apartment and have now hopefully found the final setup, with a 5G modem, OpenWRT router, and a new mesh Wi-Fi set as access points. So far, it’s working great, with occasional minor adjustments to the settings. Maybe a little cumbersome with a total of four devices, but it’s also fun!
Other than that, I rediscovered n8n and automated a few small tasks and extended my Komoot export script, which led to some comments and email conversations. It’s always exciting to find out who reads my blog. 😄
