Another month gone; time flies…

When it comes to our wedding plans, we’ve made good progress over the past month: I now have a wedding suit, we’ve ordered the wedding rings, and the catering is all set. It’s crazy how much there is to organize and pay for just for a single day. But hey, it’s supposed to be the best day of our lives, right?

Over a long weekend (I worked remotely from there on Monday and Tuesday), we visited my family in southern Germany and took a trip to Zurich, my first time in that city.

A few days ago, I switched back from Windows 11 to Linux on my laptop, installing Ubuntu 26.04 (the beta version). Windows 11 is still running in a VM (this time with QEMU/KVM instead of VirtualBox), just in case something doesn’t work out directly with Linux. A lot has changed since I last used Linux on the desktop, though. I know Snaps and Flatpaks are controversial in the Linux community, but I actually prefer these installation formats for a few reasons: the latest versions of installed apps without having to deal with additional package repositories, no dependency issues, and it’s much easier to clean up any leftover files when uninstalling an app. The base system can still be managed with apt, and older package versions can be used as needed.

And then there’s work, of course: on one hand, I’ve been learning to write UI tests with Playwright. On the other, there was a quality assurance task force. It was partly stressful, but I learned a lot. It’s definitely worth thoroughly testing software before release and not waiting for customers to find the bugs, especially when it’s critical software.

Still, I managed to go cycling three times in March. Now that the days are getting longer again after the time change and the weather is warmer and more stable, I’ll certainly be spending more time on my bike in April, exploring the area.

For now, though, I’ve got a few days of vacation coming up. 😎
