My October ‘26 in Review
And another month has flown by. Only two months left this year.
At work, we had release testing in October. Before we release a new version, it undergoes extensive testing. Of course, this phase involves a lot of bug fixing. Bug fixing is actually what I enjoy the most. It’s a bit like detective work. And then there’s that satisfying feeling when you’ve found the bug, fixed it, and maybe even improved the code in the process.
Then I took a week off. We didn’t go far, just an hour away from home, staying at an Airbnb. But just getting away from home for a week is also a great way to unwind and relax a bit. We went hiking, checked out different places, and even visited a wildlife park. It was a chance to recharge a bit before the final stretch of my wife’s teacher training.
Then, in October, I also spent more time tinkering with my music setup. I’m now scrobbling my music and using the recommendations to discover new tracks. So far, it’s working out pretty well.
But AI has also kept me busy this month. AI is a bit tricky. You can implement so much so quickly. That can be pretty overwhelming at times. Especially if you also want to understand what the AI has actually come up with. After all, you don’t want it to create a virus for you.
For a change of pace, it’s also nice to do something with my hands, like soldering. Or going for a bike ride if it’s not happening to be wet outside.
Well, and then last weekend I visited my family down south again, and instead of going back home, I headed to Schwäbisch Hall for the next release planning meeting. Basically saved myself a trip. I wrote this recap in my hotel room.
