Switching to Bunny DNS

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

A recent post by Henrique made me look into Bunny DNS again. In the past I already tried it for one or two domains but eventually stopped using it because they didn’t support DNSSEC yet. Instead I relied on the wonderful services of DeSEC. But now that support for DNSSEC and TLSA records is finally here, I switched again to Bunny DNS with all 21 of my domains.

Recursive DNS

Published on in 💬 Micro

I think I did not blog about it, but I switched back to a self-hosted AdGuard Home instance quite some time ago from NextDNS. To reduce my number of subscriptions, but also to increase my control over important infrastructure I use.

As upstreams in AdGuard Home, I used DNS4EU, Mullvad, and Quad9.

However, today, I switched to a self-hosted instance of PowerDNS Recursor. So no more reliance on third-party DNS resolvers, except the root and authoritative nameservers.

I try it with AdGuard Home first, as I later also want to set up a second PowerDNS Recursor instance on my mail server to make use of some more spam protection features.

Let’s see if any problems appear. When yes, “it was DNS”! 😅

Migrating away from Cloudflare

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Recently I stumbled across two threads regarding Cloudflare that somehow left a bitter taste. I think it’s a big red flag when users have to seek support via public forums because their accounts have been banned from a service, but no help comes via support.
