My fiancée and I were in Scotland in 2023 on an Interrail trip. But with some bad luck, we got COVID-19 after half of the trip and had to go home and recover. We always said we wanted to finish our trip in one of the next years.

It seems like every app is offering a “Spotify Wrapped”-style yearly review these days. One app where I genuinely find the results fascinating is Träwelldroid, which I use to log my public transport journeys on Träwelling. While the average German drives roughly 10k kilometers per year by car, I traveled approximately 9600 kilometers using public transport, spending a total of 4 days and 8 hours in transit. This is particularly noteworthy since I commuted less frequently this year and didn’t do any interrailing. Sadly, there is no comparison with last year.

I finally did, what I planned to do for a long time: Biking from my first to my second flat. I did it in three days. 214 kilometers with 1750 meters uphill.

So far, I had been spared from COVID-19. “Had,” focusing on the past, because now it has affected me, or us, after all. We had to cut short our vacation, which I used to share little glimpses of here on the blog. We quickly went back home, wearing masks the whole time and hoping not to infect more people.

The angle of the sun wasn’t perfect for this photo, but it turned out to be an unexpected highlight during our hike around Thurso today.

Is this the Hogwarts Express? 🚂🧙
At least we had the perfect weather at that moment (every five minutes it changed between sun and rain) and also a perfect place for a nice view of the Jacobite Steam Train passing the Glenfinnan Viaduct.

With a backpack full of stuff for two weeks, we managed to walk 11km on the West Highland Way in 2:35h. I feel it in my legs, but the views and the experience are worth it.

I like trains, if that should not have been known yet. This year I even have two major vacations (Romania and Scotland) coming up, both by train, even if flying would be possible. But if it can be done by train, then I also prefer the train.

I’m living in the north of Germany, my mother and sister in the south. Almost each week I’m taking the train from my town to the one where my mother and sister live. Just to see them for 2 days. Why am I doing this?
