Mental dump
The last days I was quite busy mentally. So here are some thoughts I just need to write down to get them off my head and give you something to read. 😄

I re-enabled my old trusty 2013-manufactured Lenovo ThinkPad S1 Yoga which I used during my studies. I had Ubuntu 24.04 installed on it for some time but never really used it. But now, I upgraded it to the latest development build of Ubuntu 26.04 to check the current state of Ubuntu and Linux on the desktop. And to check if I really switch to it as my main operating system.

It’s really impressive how easy it is to sideload apps on the WSA (Windows Subsystem for Android).
I’m still alive. 👋 Today, at work, I discovered a nice little tool for WSL2. On my work laptop I need to use Cisco AnyConnect to connect to the corporate network. Unfortunately this blocks Internet access in Windows Subsystem for Linux VMs (at least in the Ubuntu VM, I tried to use for some Docker stuff). I tried a lot of different hacks and workarounds, but none worked. Until I found wsl-vpnkit. It just works. 😄
Windows 11 is even better than I expected and my first impression was. Next to running Linux GUI apps, there’s also winget included, the Windows Package Manager. winget allows installing and updating apps directly from the terminal. (I first blogged about it last year in May.)
Guess who installed Windows 11 and can now easily run Linux GUI apps without having to jump through all the hoops that were once necessary? Quite impressive… And my laptop (supposedly built in 2013) is not even officially supported for Windows 11, but still runs great!

Microsoft announced Windows 11 today! The Verge gives an overview about it.
I spent most of the weekend trying and finally managed to install Windows 10 today in a fairly short time.
In 9 days Microsoft wants to present the “next generation” of Windows, it is assumed to be “Windows 11”.
Windows 10 21H1 is available and I just installed it on my ThinkPad. Wow, that was a fast (major Windows) update! Not many new features though…
