⚠️ This entry is already over one year old. It may no longer be up to date. Opinions may have changed.

I currently use GoToSocial (with my numeronym domain) next to my blog, but it always confuses me where to post what. That’s why I want to move to my blog as my sole Fediverse identity. But before that, I wanted to implement another Fediverse feature in GoBlog: support for the new fediverse:creator meta tag.

The last time I really did something in the ActivityPub area of GoBlog, I set up a Mastodon instance on a DigitalOcean VPS. This time, I installed a test instance of Mastodon on my (underused) home server and used Tailscale to let it communicate with the GoBlog instance running in WSL on my laptop.

And I got the setup to work, but also the feature. 🥳 Why rent a VPS, if you already have all the necessary hardware and Tailscale? And why use another Fediverse software for your Fediverse identity if you have GoBlog? 😅

The next feature, I will have to implement, is support for the alsoKnownAs property on my blogs Fediverse actors to be able to send a Move activity from my GoToSocial instance.

Maybe you ask, how do I follow people, then? I will use Miniflux to subscribe to the RSS feeds of the Fediverse profiles I currently follow.

If you don’t already follow my blog on the Fediverse, you can find it by searching for @en@jlelse.blog (or using this form. My German blog is at @de@jlelse.blog (or you can use this form). 😊
