Initial thoughts about Bluesky
There’s a lot of noise about Bluesky recently, it seems like they passed 20 million users, with more than 1 million new users daily recently.
While I tried Bluesky for a short period of time at the beginning of this year, I quickly deleted my account as I noticed I somehow outgrew big social networks. Even my tiny Fediverse bubble felt like too much before I unfollowed some accounts some time ago.
What I appreciate is that Bluesky provides RSS feeds and lets you explore the content, search etc. all while logged out, unlike some other site owned by a right-wing extremist.
Today, I quickly looked into the docs (like this example) to see how complicated it would be to add AT Protocol support to my blog. But I am even more overwhelmed than the first time I looked into ActivityPub (which feels like child’s play in comparison). So many acronyms, so many unfamiliar terms. Maybe, maybe, some clever people will build a simple library I can just use? It doesn’t seem impossible to build compatible standalone apps, as Bridgy Fed also has an implementation and supports bridging to Bluesky.
