The gym is already at home
My new piece of fitness equipment is finally here. In all its glory, standing there to remind me every day to get a workout in. Now I don’t even have to go to the gym, because the gym is already at home.

Welcome to the Thoughts section of my blog. Thoughts are better kept on my blog than on Twitter or other online platforms.

Today, after a short evening shift in the old/new apartment, I reached 4000 km total distance with my Pedelec (the only legal option for an electric bicycle without insurance in Germany – up to 25 km/h is supported by a motor when pedaling).

Every few months, I inevitably catch a cold or some other virus and end up stuck at home for a few days. Right now, I’m in one of those phases again. Thankfully, this time hasn’t been too bad, and I’m already on the mend. After a lot of Netflix marathons, I realized I couldn’t just sit around doing nothing – I’m the kind of person who needs to feel productive, even when I’m under the weather.
This Christmas, I got a cool gift – a door pull-up bar. I wanted it because I do (Freeletics) workouts two or three times per week without any equipment (except some resistance bands I got a while ago), and I thought pull-ups would add some variety. Plus, I heard they’re good for working out different muscles like the back, arms, and grip.
Since I have YouTube Premium and log in to YouTube, YouTube is suggesting videos that seem to fit my interests a lot more (and it’s a little addictive again, but not as bad as when I was still studying).
I taught myself Go (and programming in general) by learning by doing. I learned by making a lot of mistakes and after noticing them, doing the necessary research. My Go code is probably a big mess, but it’s so satisfying, after not touching some code for a while, to do a major rewrite and improve the code with everything I’ve learned since the last time.
My first Freeletics week is complete. And I got a badge for the first “perfect week”. I hope this gamification (levels and badges for perfect weeks, perfect week streaks, training session milestones etc.) will make me pull through. My girl friend also joined me and started using Freeletics. 🤓
I recently switched to Purelymail, after mentioning a long time ago that I keep an eye on the service every now and then.
Colin’s post yesterday inspired me to install the Loop Habit Tracker app. How did I not know about this app yet? Free, no ads, and even open source!
Microsoft’s open source strategy is interesting. Microsoft currently publishes 3836 repositories on GitHub. By chance I came across the following new repository: Extensible Storage Engine. It is published under the MIT License.
