Tech, life and everything else

💭 Thoughts: XXXX-08

Welcome to the Thoughts section of my blog. Thoughts are better kept on my blog than on Twitter or other online platforms.

Plain text writing

Always when I see news about writing tools like the iOS app Ulysses (which apparently just released an update), I ask myself if people really need apps like this to develop a writing habit?

GitHub still doesn’t support IPv6

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

I am currently experimenting with whether a Scaleway Stardust instance will also suffice for me as a code server. Scaleway offers this at an incredibly low price and if you then also select that no IPv4 address should be used, then the instance costs less than 0,50 € per month.

On using Linux…

Next to my Microsoft Surface Go with Windows on it, I often take my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1 with me, when I visit my family over the weekend. The ThinkPad let’s me do some development things on a Linux machine (with Ubuntu 20.04) during the long train trips (6 hours each direction). So I always try to get everything up-to-date before. It’s always amazing how fast it is to do this.

I cancelled my 1+ Nord pre-order

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Shortly after the official announcement I pre-ordered the 12 GB version of OnePlus Nord on Amazon for 499€ minus 30€ Prime discount. It should have been shipped tomorrow and arrived at my place on Wednesday. Why my blog has NO AMP version

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

Two days ago, Owen Williams shared a story on Medium’s OneZero with the title “Google Is Tightening Its Grip on Your Website”. He tells that it seems like Google is trying to get more power over the web in a somewhat evil way by forcing sites to implement an AMP (“accelerated mobile pages”) version. When sites don’t implement it, they won’t appear in Chrome’s discover page or in the top search results.

I’m currently on vacation and spend less time than usual on things like news and blog articles. A result of this is my news reader is collecting more and more news articles, but too many to read them all.

I’m currently with my family on vacations and we have rented a holiday flat. The description of the flat includes “Free WiFi”, so I would assume there is a functioning WiFi. It may not be fast, but it should be working.

SCSS adventures

Published on in 💭 Thoughts

I’m currently in the process of improving my sites Hugo theme. I removed features I never used and simplified unorganized HTML and CSS, to enable adding new features (like better support for IndieWeb things) later.
